How should users log out of Clever and connected apps?
When logging out, it's important to remember that while Instant Login is seemingly one single sign-on step, Instant Login can actually be broken down into three separate login processes behind the scenes:
- Identity provider login (i.e. Google)
- Clever login
- Application login (i.e. Khan Academy)
While closing all web browsers will automatically log users out of most identity providers (i.e. Clever Passwords, ADFS, Azure Active Directory), there are some which will need you to explicitly log out (i.e. Google). If a student is accessing a shared device, we recommend that they log out of each system after their session. The user should therefore be logging out of the application, the Clever portal, and their respective identity provider.
If you are using Google as your identity provider and would like a Clever Portal logout to also log users out of Google, please reach out to our support team. We can configure this for you!
What is the shared devices notification?
Upon initial sign in to Clever, users will be asked whether or not they should be remembered on the device. If they select 'Yes, I'm the only one who uses this device', then their Clever session will remain intact for 24 hours.
If the user does not select 'Yes', Clever will treat the device as a shared device. In this case, users will be prompted with an option to sign in as a different user after 10 minutes of inactivity on the Clever portal.
Please note: this feature gives users who share devices the option to log in to another account, in case the best log-out practices were not followed.
