What are student contacts?
A student contact is usually a student’s parent, guardian, or emergency contact. Clever can support multiple student contacts for each student.
To see the student contact data that you currently have in Clever, navigate to the Data Browser and click the Student Contacts tab:
How is student contact data stored in Clever?
There are five fields in Clever that hold student contact data:
Contact_type - Type of contact - e.g. ”family”, ”emergency” or ”guardian”. If providing student contacts, then contact type is required.
Contact_name- If providing student contacts, then contact name is required.
Contact_relationship - The contact’s relationship to the student - e.g. ”Father”, ”Aunt” or ”Neighbor”.
Contact_phone - a 10 or 11 digit phone number without any characters, such as parentheses or dashes
Contact_email - Contact’s email address. Must match format email@example.com
How do I sync student contact information to Clever?
The way that Clever pulls the student contact data depends on the sync type that your district uses. Find your SIS sync type below for more instructions!
For SFTP syncs, you will include the five contact fields in the Students.csv: Contact_type, Contact_name, Contact_relationship, Contact_phone, and Contact_email.
To provide multiple parent/guardian contacts: create multiple rows for each student- with different contact information for each of the student’s contacts.
SIS-Managed Auto Sync
For SIS-Managed Auto Syncs, Clever has partnered directly with the SIS provider to offer an automated sync option. Reach out to your SIS provider to find out whether student contact data can be included in your exports.
Clever-Managed Auto Sync
When providing student contacts, there are two fields that are always required: Contact_type and Contact_name. Find your Clever-Managed Auto Sync below for more SIS-specific instructions!
We currently pull one contact record per student, from the following fields on the Student endpoints of the Aeries API:
Infinite Campus Auto Sync
Students can have many (up to 6-7) contacts in Infinite Campus. Clever pulls from these fields:

Infinite Campus API Sync
By default, the Infinite Campus API sync pulls student contacts from the following fields:

This is flagged within IC: Guardian/Relative = Census > Relationships
Customization of the IC API sync is not available at this time.

The PowerSchool Auto Sync can be customized so that Clever pulls student contacts from different fields than those listed above. Visit our PowerSchool Help Center article for instructions on requesting a custom mapping!

Skyward Auto Sync
Clever pulls eight fields for Skyward emergency contact, forming cohesive student contacts in Clever:
It is not possible to have more than one contact record per student. However, we can customize the sync to pull from other fields instead.
For example, if you want to use Parent_Name and Parent_Phone instead of E1 Full Name and E1 Cell Phone, we can do that!
Skyward API Sync
Clever syncs student contacts from the guardian endpoint and pulls multiple contacts per student. We can customize the Auto Sync to pull student contact information from different fields, as long as those fields are accessible via Skyward’s API. Reach out to our support team for more information!
