Overview
Clever allows districts to pause the sync from their student information system (SIS). When a sync is paused, the current rostering data is essentially "frozen" in Clever for the duration of the district's sync pause.
By default, Clever schedules a pause for all district SIS syncs beginning two days before the last day of school, and resuming two weeks before the start of the new school year allowing district's to make updates to their SIS without disrupting district user access to Clever or their connected applications. The two primary use cases for this are school year rollover, and planning for summer school. Please see the following articles for details:
For additional details about your specific type of auto sync, please see these Auto Sync Help Center articles
When a district's sync is paused
When your district's SIS sync to Clever is paused:
- All team members in your Clever district dashboard > Team page will receive an email notification the day before the pause begins.
- Rosters will not sync from your SIS to Clever, so changes made in your SIS will not interrupt student and teacher access to Clever or their connected applications.
- SFTP uploads will not be processed
- Automatic syncs will not run
- Applications may still sync to Clever even if a district's SIS sync is paused.
- If you'd like your application(s) to stop syncing to Clever, please reach out to the app partner(s) directly.
- Districts can still update sharing permissions for applications.
- Your sync status will show as "Paused” in your Clever district dashboard.
When a district sync pause ends or is cancelled
When a district's sync pause ends or is cancelled:
- All team members in your Clever district dashboard > Team page will receive an email notification the day before the pause begins.
- Clever will once again resume:
- Syncing with your SIS (auto syncs)
- Processing your next SFTP upload (SFTP syncs)
- If the rostering data in Clever changes significantly at the first sync, your sync will be placed on an automatic hold to provide you time to review the rostering changes before they are processed. Please see this article for more on sync holds.
- District admins can review sync changes before they are processed from the district dashboard > Sync page by using the 'download changes' option to the right of each data type.
Scheduling or Initiating a pause
A sync pause can be initiated or cancelled by a district admin from the district dashboard > Sync > Settings page by entering a 'Pause Start Date' and 'Pause End Date'.
Pause Dates
- Pause Start Date: This will be the first day your sync goes on pause.
- Pause End Date: This will be the last day your sync is paused.
Clever Tip: To schedule an indefinite pause, select a 'Pause Start Date' and then 'Update'. Leave the 'Pause End Date' blank. To begin syncing again, select 'Clear' at any time.
Modifying a scheduled pause
To modify a sync pause that has already been scheduled, navigate to your Sync Settings page:
- Click within the box next to 'Pause Start Date' or 'Pause End Date'.
- Select a new date from the pop-up calendar.
- Select 'Update' to confirm the change.
Removing a pause
To remove a sync pause and resume syncing data to Clever at any time, navigate to your district dashboard > Sync > Settings page, and select the 'Clear' option under the 'Schedule Sync Pause' section.
