Please note: Synced Passwords is not currently supported. This article is intended for districts that are already using Synced Passwords as an identity provider.
With Synced Passwords, admins define the usernames and passwords for all users and sync them to Clever. Because these passwords are set up in your SIS sync, credentials will not change unless the data flowing in to Clever changes.
How does single sign-on (SSO) work with Synced Passwords?
When you set up single sign-on (SSO) with Synced Passwords, you define the usernames and passwords for student and teachers using the Username and Password field in Clever. For SFTP syncs, these are the 'Username' and 'Password' fields in the students.csv and teachers.csv files. For Auto Syncs, our team must customize your sync to map fields in your SIS to username and password in Clever. When users access the Clever Portal or a single sign-on (SSO) link, they’ll be prompted to log in to Clever using these credentials.
Can I Look Up Passwords?
If you are a Clever District Administrator you can view users’ credentials by using the data browser - if you click on a record, the username will be in the credentials.district_username field and the password will be in the credentials.district_password field.
How are credentials changed?
Credentials will only change if the data in the Clever username and password field (also referred to as ‘credentials.district_username’ and ‘credentials.district_password’) are changed.
If you are using SFTP, this is done by changing the value in the Username or Password column in the students.csv or teachers.csv file.
If you are using an automatic sync, the credentials will change if the data in the SIS fields that we have mapped to the Clever username and password fields changes.
