Clever has scheduled a default pause for all districts to begin at the beginning of June. Data will begin syncing again between August 1 and August 12. We encourage districts to customize their pause dates in the Back to School Guide to coincide with their school year dates.
- First Day: This will be the first day the district’s sync is paused, which should coincide with the district’s last day of their ‘16-17 school year.
- Last Day: This will be the last day the district’s sync is paused, which should be the day before the district’s SIS data is active for the ‘17-18 school year.
While a district’s sync is paused Clever will not process any data, allowing the district to make changes to their SIS without interrupting student or teacher access to your application. '16-17 data will be "frozen" in Clever for the duration of the district’s pause.
Please note: It is not possible to pause your sync data on an app-by-app basis at this time. Please be sure to visit our Community to submit product feedback if you would like to see this functionality in the future.
What should we do if we need to maintain full year access to our districts?
Encourage your districts to use Clever’s pause feature to ‘freeze’ their ‘16-’17 data in Clever for the duration of the summer. This will ensure that users can access your application throughout the summer even if they aren’t active in their district’s SIS.

What does it mean when a district’s sync pause ends?
For Clever-managed auto syncs - We’ll resume our scheduled syncs with the district’s SIS. Each SIS handles rollover differently, so encourage them to check out their SIS-specific instructions here!
Once a district's pause has ended and the data in their SIS reflects '17-'18 rosters, their sync will go on hold. Once reviewed - the district has the ability to release the hold on their Sync page. Remind them to check their email for hold notifications!
For SIS-managed auto syncs - We’ll process the next upload submitted by the SIS. Have the district confirm with their SIS that ‘17-’18 data is being sent to Clever. Remind them to check their email for hold notifications!
For SFTP syncs - We’ll process the next upload submitted by the district. Remind them to check their email for hold notifications!
What should we do if we need to offer summer school access?
No problem! Have the district contact Clever Support, so we can determine the best way for them to sync summer school data with your application.
What does it mean to be syncing over the summer?
For districts that opt out of using Clever’s pause feature, we’ll continue to sync their data throughout the summer. You’ll probably see a decrease in the number of students, teachers, and sections syncing from Clever. Don’t worry: we’ll preserve Clever IDs once the data starts syncing again for the ‘17-’18 school year.
How can we make sure our districts are ready for the ‘17-’18 school year?
We encourage districts to check 3 things once their pause has ended to confirm they’re ready for the ‘17-’18 school year:
- Browse their data in Clever to check that student grade levels reflect '17-18 enrollment information and match the data in their SIS.
- Browse their data in Clever to check that sections syncing belong to the '17-18 school year.
- Review their sharing permissions.
