Why is personalizing goals important?
You’ll want to ensure that you’ve taken the time to personalize a student’s goal to reflect their learning needs in each of the digital tools they use. Any personalizations will continue into future weeks until you make another adjustment.
Who set the default goals for my students?
District curriculum and instructional leadership teams set weekly minutes and progress goals for each online learning program. Teams can either set district wide minutes and progress goals or differentiate goals by grade level.
We’ve repeatedly heard from teachers and schools leaders that it can be difficult to make sense of reports from different online programs because each has a different metric for measuring student achievement. For Goals, we’ll set a progress for each online learning program that best captures and reflects student learning. The progress metric for online learning programs will vary from digital tool to digital tool, from activities completed, to lessons passed, and quizzes completed to name a few.
Teachers and school admin have the ability to personalize individual student goals.
How do I personalize goals for my students?
After you have logged in to Goals and selected one of your classes, you will:
1. Click on the 'Students' tab
2. Select ‘Set personalized goals’ in order to start editing student goals:
Please note: if this icon is grey and unable to be selected, check to make sure you're viewing Progress for this week and not the last week, as you can't edit goals retroactively.
3. You can then click within each editable goal box to adjust weekly goals for each student:
4. Once you have finished making edits, click ‘Saved personalized goals.’
We recognize that personalizing goals for students is an iterative process as you continue to assess your students’ learning needs.
Will my students see their personalized goals?
Students will track their progress towards goal completion on a daily basis via progress bars that will update under each of the online learning programs connected with Goals.
What if my student isn't using an online learning program?
In some cases, your student will not actually be using an online learning program that the district has made available. In this case, you’d want to customize the student’s goal to zero.
This will ensure that the student does not see a program bar for this program on their Clever Portal and that the student’s progress is not counted towards the school total.
