Updated functionality for the 2019-2020 school year!
Thousands of schools use the Clever Portal as their one-stop shop, providing easy access and single sign-on for for all their digital resources. As classroom teachers increasingly embrace personalized learning, administrators and educators have asked for ways that teachers could add assignments, links, apps, and other resources to the Clever Portal for their students.
Teacher Pages: Teacher-customized sections of the Clever Portal
Teachers have the option to create 'Teacher Pages' for their students - pages customized by the teacher that will only show up for the students in their rostered classes. These pages can be easily customized by the teacher with assignments, cloud-hosted files, links and other resources that are specific to just their students, without cluttering the district portal for anyone else. Students see the Teacher Pages for their classes at the top of their Clever Portal:
If you’d like to view the class page for a particular teacher or student, you can use the new “Access Portal as” feature.
Teachers incorporate a wide variety of digital resources into their instruction, so the Clever Portal supports teachers adding custom resources by URL. Teachers simply paste in the link, specify the name of the link, and add an icon:
Adding links from the Clever Library
Teachers can browse the Clever Library, a catalog of over 500 popular resources that can be added to a teacher’s Class Page with a single click. The Clever Library is organized by grade level and content area, and contains descriptions and screenshots of available resources. In the future, teachers will also be able to browse ratings and reviews from other educators, as well as see which resources are most popular in their school or district.
Adding SSO apps to a Class Page
Teachers consistently tell us that Single-Sign On makes a huge difference in their ability to seamlessly incorporate digital resources into their instruction. Teachers are able to add SSO apps to their Teacher Page in addition to traditional links. When adding a Clever-partnered app, teachers will have the opportunity to authorize an SSO connection via Clever, similar to how they would authorize an SSO connection via “Log in with Google” or “Log in with Microsoft 365”.
To facilitate the setup of SSO accounts, teachers can allow access to basic directory information. Specifically, when adding an SSO app, teachers can allow the application to access the following fields:
- The teacher's first name, last name, Clever ID, email address, and sections they teach
- For sections they teach: section name, section number, Clever ID, subject, and grade level
- For students in the sections they teach: first name, first initial of last name, Clever ID, and grade level
Clever has worked with applications to ensure this is the minimum set of information needed to create SSO accounts. For example, Clever does not transmit student or teacher id numbers, does not transmit school or district information, and does not transmit personal information such as birthday or gender for either students or teachers. This data also represents similar or less information than is shared via Log In with Google and Log In with Microsoft.
If you would like to recommended resources for Library or adjust access settings, you can do so by navigating to Portal > Library Settings.
District insights for classroom resources
To help administrators understand which resources teachers are finding and using in their classroom, Clever will surface aggregate usage information in the Clever Dashboard. District administrators and Curriculum Leads will see resources that teachers have added to their Class Pages, as well as the number of teacher and students that have accessed the resource in the last 7 days.
